None of this makes sense, the capitol plaza is now a prison. Liberals never give back power, Trump is building all of this up to hand to Biden? Is that what we are supposed to believe?

Let's say Trump denies the requests he received for more troops. And let's say that something did happen to Biden, they would pin it all on Trump. They would anyway, but allowing 20,000 troops to surround a guy is a pretty good indication you weren't in on it.
As far as Biden, the FBi, etc, it's all optics to tell the world look what we had to do just to swear in a new prez and protect him from the right/trump supporters.

This is most likely the correct answer. Trump gets to disavow violence by saying he was protecting Biden and the inauguration. The left gets to say they needed 20k troops to protect them from evil domestic terrorist patriots, which is the newest and most important narrative the left is pushing. All theatre.

No offense, but I think Optics is the worst answer. This is obvious Overkill, almost to everyone. That makes it a failure in the Optics department. They would be better off with 5,000 troops, and less razor wire Maybe

That's what the left truly thinks and if they can think that, then they probably don't think 20,000 or 30,000 is too many troops.
There are people that believe that, but it is a minority. Now we're in chicken-and-egg territory. Are there 30,000 troops to convince us that there are a lot of people that believe it's necessary, or are there a lot of troops because there are a lot of people who think it's necessary?
