I love the conspiracy theories but it’s most likely for additional server farms to compete against AWS. Buying up all the land makes it difficult for other companies to come into the space

AWS alone generates about 26 billion dollars per year revenue in a quickly growing market. Microsoft had 143 billion total revenue in 2020. They would be crazy not to try to get a piece of that and squeeze out the competition by purchasing farm land near critical infrastructure. The worse case scenario is they have a bunch of land to sell
