Did her parents pay for that? How could she have been paying off that debt herself with a bartending job? I suppose she might have made good tips because of boobs, but when I got a job after college (it wasn't a very good one) I had to live with my parents for a while, because I couldn't pay my student loans and rent every month. And my college didn't cost anywhere near that much. Also, if they do student loan forgiveness now, after I've scrimped for years to pay mine off, I'm going to be really mad.
I took longer to get through college because I decided not to do it with debt. Had 2 years off halfway through to work a minimum wage job to save money to get through the other half. I was able to get a grant or two, so that did help some. So yeah, I feel the same way if people who chose debt get a free ride on my tax dollars.
For sure her parents paid. Although schools like BU charge you differently based on what your parents' assets look like. Work hard and save money for your kids' education, pay off your house and have no debt, and congratulations! You get to pay the full cost. But...have a lot of debt, be in financially shaky territory etc. and they will cut your tuition. Some even brag about paying 100% tuition for diversity applicants...while they charge middle class folks 75k. It's kind of annoying.
