One side gets units in, then the other is questioning its own plans and add more forces of its own. This is how it has escalated to 30k troops. Most people have no clue, but the 2 sides are trying to out deploy the other so they don't have to come to the actual conflict. No one believes in any riots by civilians in a closed city which you can't get into or move around, it is full lock down. All of antifa and maga people who could come to cause trouble would not POSSIBLY require this level of manpower on the ground. Second Battle of Fallujah - 13K allied troops were fighting 4K of ARMED insurgency. And it was WAR WAR. DC now has DOUBLE that number.
Its a cover up. Remember this pictures of national guard on the floor of the Capital building? Do you think this is a way to deploy best military force on earth on its own territory? No, this is emergency deployment of ANY people with guns you can find which you BELIEVE are loyal to your side or your version of "proper authority" one side moved them in as soon as they could so the other side could not take the same place with its own men since they are both "legally" on the same side and one side would not really push the other from a place taken.
If it comes to a open conflict between the sides, it will be battle between US troops. Make no mistake, riot control makes no sense. This is a final showdown between internal forces in the government. Best case scenario - one side blinks and surrenders.

But at the end of the day it will be general loyalty of the troops to one side or another, at some point units will openly leave or declare neutrality to the issue, and once the balance tips one of the side will seize it all. The moment they do, all the corrupt government machine will flip to the winning side and everyone will rush to explain why winning side was always right and the losing side are pure evil and always been.
