Me and my sister were thinking gab may make a phone call at the G phone or Elon musk could make a new phone and call it the Ephone! They could roll out several hundred million for people to dump the iPhones! We will buy them and throw these iPhones in the ocean!

Buy an unlocked Google pixel 4a for like $350, flash on GrapheneOS. Install Gapps if you need to run apps that use google play services.
I've always wanted to know whatever protocol is used for a cell phone call. They can't be too crazy to make something that can ONLY call and receive calls. Not even capable of supporting a snake game or contacts. I bet with modern tech you can make one not much larger than the sim card itself minus whatever size antenna required.
Unfortunately the old system including 3G is getting phased out for VoLTE. Potentially an issue in rural areas where much like the shutdown of dialup those folks may have less connectivity with the new tech
