Well it is a virtue to be peaceful and in domestic politics violence is rarely necessary (my people have overthrown a communist government without a single shot fired), but if a major world power makes claims like this, sooner or later, using weapons might be necessary.

The old adage is true; You can vote yourself into communism (although we didn't), but you have to shoot your way out.
We did it without shooting. But my father kept an illegal gun for 40 years to use it in the revolution. It was not used. We were lucky.
