I’ve actually been to China a few times and I can tell you nobody there has a choice. People are terrorized. Saw a Christian get on a bus and tell people about a worship gathering. People were frightened by this because they know it was a potential challenge to the CCP government and that guy and his Christian associates could end up in the gulag if they say the wrong thing. The group would have to try very hard to stay under the radar.
I know someone from China who is too terrorized to discuss the political situation in China because their family might be affected or they might get arrested if they go back to visit.
People in China, and even Chinese people in the US, are terrorized by the CCP. Chinese people here can also be forced into stuff like industrial espionage even if they’re not CCP members, especially if they don’t get their whole family out of China somehow for example.
