take a sliver of wood plywood/osb that is 4" longer than longest length of the hole, put a temp screw in the middle to enable you to insert it in and put screws through either side of the drywall into the sliver of wood.
remove screw used to hold sliver in place
use instant curing drywall mud and a bit more water than usual to coat the back of the butterfly patch, place into hole
be careful to not press so hard that you tear the paper, it is doublelayred paper but not as strong as taping-paper, so it rips easy due to moisture

i started putting a layer of OSB before drywalling to deal with these assholes
