Our Government teacher in the 7th grade introduced us to Ayn Rand - we read "Anthem" and then I think we got extra credit for reading additional books (I next read "We The Living" and later, "The Fountainhead")
When my niece asked me what we read in the 7th grade (when she hit that grade), I started telling her about Ayn Rand and "Anthem" and my brother - who went to prep school but I thought he read that stuff too - went nearly ballistic that I was even MENTIONING Ayn Rand to his child which he was apparently brainwashing -
I mean, it is so strange that we were from the same parents (our father used to warn all of us about folliowing the lemmings)
But then she sent him away to teach him how to be sensible
Logical, responsible, practical
And they showed him a world where he could be so dependable
Respectable, presentable, a CNN vegetable

well, my Mom wonders about what happened to his critical thinking - she really does - "he used to be so logical"
