Used in three situation: No unity among states; President life in danger; American territory under foriegn siege (military sign). Never ever the flag can be put with the union stars down, except this three cases. Fuck, I realize now that you as americans should know this! Just go and hang your history teachers!

Good point on the cursive; I never thought of that being the reason.

That’s about the only reason I can see cursive being used for, lord knows the vast majority of those who write it still only do so because they can’t write straight letters to save their lives. I’ve only met a few who could write decent cursive outside of their name, the rest is usually illegible chicken scratch. Glad it is going away learning it didn’t improve anything for me or anyone else I knew growing up.

§8 (a) The flag should never be displayed with union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

While it may be a bit of a stretch to say we are in a situation of extreme danger to life and property, you cannot say we are not....

I always thought it meant "in distress"
