If you haven't seen it, you should definitely watch the two-part miniseries The Rough Riders. It was written and directed by John Milius, the same guy who gave us Red Dawn and Conan the Barbarian. It's about the Spanish-American War, and there are a couple of times where the characters mention that the whole war might just be for the benefit of the sugar companies.

It wasn't what we want to believe our governments relationship with corporations use to be, but it was at least mutually beneficial even for your average citizen. What we are seeing today with tech companies is corruption that feeds off American citizens and only serves to harm society. It's a complete disregard of the constitution hiding behind "private industry", in reality though the established Democrat government officials use the media, and these tech companies to deny us our Freedom of speech and freedom of press, and also to silence political opposition, in exchange the tech companies are allowed to run wild and obtain complete control of the market. In no way does that benefit our country, politicians get around the constitution by having the tech companies deny us our rights, and manipulate info they have practically total control over to try to get ultimate control over our government, in exchange the CEOs of these tech companies are allowed to operate however they want, free of prosecution, and free to crush competition however they want.
