Compromise is neccessary, sadly. Especially for Trump, an outsider. Trump is great, but his decision to run as a Republican always meant he would have to play ball. Trump did some monumental things, but he also had to do some status quo things. He was more or less a hostage for 4 years.

Strangely, it was the Dems virulence that pushed him to cozy up to the Republican status quo. The impeachments pushed him into McConnell's hands. Before that, Trump was more aggressive.
