Yes, exactly! They work as well as straining spaghetti with a chainlink fence. And, as soon as their hand touches the mask it is contaminated. I was people and it usually takes less than 30 seconds of seeing them before they contaminate their mask.
They may wipe okay; but, are also completely ineffective in filtering farts! (Multiple "science" sources have indicated the virus can be transmitted via farts.)
