You should think about upgrading to ham. Legally you can transmit during an emergency.

I just sold a nice yaesu hf radio for under 500 bucks. A super nice used hf might cost 2k.

I have a scanner I listen to and I cannot figure out what the ham operators are doing; they have these "checkin" things where all they seem to do is say a number and check in. that's it. and they do it all the time.

Yeah, this is going to be a whole new world for me. I've got a connection that is going to help me learn how to not only work with it, but do some mumbo magic that should boost the signal.

Took a stock photo of the make and model I got. But... Truck stop. They always have the best gear.
