Lamentations was written by Jeremiah AFTER Israel was invaded by Babylon.
The book of Jeremiah prophesied the invasion. People hated Jeremiah for his prophecies and threw him into a pit (Doomer!!!) And there were false prophets saying everything was going to be fine (Jer. ch 27-29). The people loved them.
Lamentations is an amazing picture of how bad things were after the invasion.
