I don't think they actually care about money, other than it is a means for power.

They don't care about anything, unless it increases their power.

That's why Venezuela went into the abyss and became a 3rd world shithole, 20 years after being the envy of all South America in terms of wealth and resources.

Once Chavez/Maduro gained power, EVERYTHING else didn't matter.

Everything is but a tool to be traded for power.

So...when they lose market/marketshare, they really don't care. Their eyes are on the prize: total control.
