I don't think this is nearly as effective in these days of modern farming. We can plow very deep and very fast. To get to a sodium chloride concentration high enough to make fields infertile would require an ungodly amount of material. You're talking convoys of dump trucks to the average mega farm.

Besides, the soil is already fucked with an salted with herbicides so much you need GMO crops that can live in it to begin with.
