Because the primary way the left is controlled is by convincing themselves they are a good person, and allowing [censored] media to define the meaning of "good". But they're mostly awful people, not bad or malicious, just selfish and thoughtless and cultish. Because they don't actually do good actions, which would help them maintain a sense of personal goodness outside of ideological signaling, they're driven to virtue signal even harder to compensate.

To break free, you can either stop identifying as a good person, or you can stop allowing others to define what "good" means. I did both. I still get people commenting that I'm good or kind because I took a helpful action, but that's not important to me. It's just the way we should treat each other.
