Because you dont need that many soldiers to handle politicians. You need that many to squash revolt. Ever been in combat? I spent years in Iraq and never saw that many soldiers

They are preparing for the coming attack, all these troops in DC is for protection and that's a strong warning that the government is about to do something that will piss off the whole country, like maybe gun grabs?

What coming attack? We're not preparing anything.

Going there to stop gun grabs would be immensely silly. Read 4th Generation Warfare, if we have to do what we have to do, then we would use the Afghanistan model of warfare, not march en masse.
