In 1971 I was an active duty Marine from Camp LeJeune, NC who was part of the “National Guard” troops assigned to protect DC during the May Day riots. The media reported that we were unarmed DC, MD and VA National Guardsmen. Most of the Marines who were sent to DC were in the Corps 2 years or less w/o any combat experience while I was only back in the states less than 2 months after 15 months in Vietnam when we were shipped to DC. As an ANGLICO Marine Sgt. I carried a 1911 pistol and before leaving Camp LeJeune I was issued an M14 rifle (with a selector switch safe, semi, auto) along with a magazine and 20 rounds of ammo. This was in addition to the 1911 mags and ammo I already had. We rotated to and from DC from Andrews AFB where we were setup in 2 man tents (shelter halfs) in a large grassy field.
What I remember most was one cold miserable morning after 5-6 hrs sleep on the ground 2 white vans pulled up. One was the Red Cross the other had a CBS 9 logo. They set up a table with donuts and a coffee urn and a young 1st Lt cam and got our youngest Pvt. and took him up for news report. We were excited to be getting hot coffee after having water and cold C rats. We watched anxiously as they did their report but as soon as the CBS 9 van pulled away they put everything back into the Red Cross van and took off. I never gave a dime to those bastards at the Red Cross since. When we went to DC that day we wanted a confrontation with some hippy protesters.
The only branch that can be deployed on us soil is NG unless like you said aftermath of natural disaster or war disaster. The Insurgent Act makes sense. I heard he actually I acted it on the 13th? But I’m not sure about that as we haven’t seen actual proof. Act of War on us soil would also allow for Marines but congress has absolutely only control of activating a War. I doubt they will say we are in war with China it would have to take an actual attack on our soil for them to not be able to hide it anymore. FEMA is in charge of DC right now I’m not sure who they are allowed to call upon for assistance.
A few things.
The gates are up in a way to keep people in not out. The U joints I think they are called are facing outwards not in. On the locations I have seen in pictures. A mob of people could easily push through a fence set up like that.
The barb wire is tilted in as well not out.
The entrances are set up like prison entrances or base entrances.
They have brought in there own power supply
The guards on watch are not actually armed and ready. All magazines in all pictures of the watch standers and the ones milling around inside are not in the gun.
My thoughts: they have turned the capitol into a self sustaining prison. The NG is for the world to see it will even deter the likes of Antifa honestly or to an extent. Marines are def present and if your saying the are armed they are the real force in control. I’m a vet. These are only my observations.
Chain link has brace bands and tension bands that might fit that description, but brace bands don't have a 'side' and tension bands are supposed to be on the "outside" as is the chain link it flushes with. The real thing to look at there is the carriage bolts. The inside has the nut... Of course there's probably some kind of special security version...
