If you decrease regulation, companies wont have to worry about investing money into policies and training for regulations that are no longer necessary, and they will save more money. The only benefit is to the illegal aliens who will come here to work at a McDonalds and get those huge wages, which they well send back to their home countries where the dollar can purchase a whole lot more than what it can in the US.
It doesn't lift anyone out of poverty because the cost of living also goes up and that money becomes worthless. It will definitely lower far more people into poverty because everyone on fixed incomes, welfare, social security and such will not be getting raises and they will no longer be able to afford eating at restaurants, which in turn will cause even more people to lose jobs.
So the job loss comes from at least two sources: the businesses that have to close because they can't afford the high wages and the loss of business because the elderly and others on fixed incomes can't be customers anymore.
Raising the minimum wage will only lower the purchasing power of your dollar. It will not lift anyone. It will decimate your savings overnight. But isn’t that really the point? What are Americans doing trying to protect themselves from financial dependence, anyway?
