Reagan allowed amnesty. His mind was going and it's commonly believed his more liberal lawyers and advisors were manipulating him after 1984.
Part of the deal was that illegal immigration would be strictly enforced afterwards. Ha!
Then John McCain took up the charge and started trying to find more ways to get them in.
In the same period, he signed something called the "Firearm Owners Protection Act" which contained the "machine gun" ban.
George Bush took over after Reagan was shot.
Change my mind.
The deal was amnesty in exchange for new laws and more enforcement. Then congressional Ds refused to provide funding for the additional enforcement. Then Bush 1, Clinton, Bush 2, and Obama opened the borders and didn't even enforce existing law.
