Its crazy how four years ago all the wall talk with Mexico was so confrontational. Now, despite the Trump lost narrative, Mexico is still protecting our border. They could stop now and Biden would probably praise them. Instead they are keeping their promises. They have my respect.
This is a sad day for everyone. Even after all the emotionally numbing events during this past year, I feel true pain in my heart to all the people that will be harmed from both sides of the situation. I must admit I do not know enough of these people's story to know of their reasoning but I feel its telling when you leave your country with nothing but your clothes on your back just how messed their situations must be. Its also sad that these troops are going to have to do what they do to enforce the law as it can't be easy on the heart when you are trying to block women and children as they beg for salvation.
Its also sad for a country to have to make certain decisions to protect its country and put its citizens first so that they can be in a better position to help others when they are able. Optically it looks bad but it is not a selfish sentiment and quite frankly it is irresponsible to pretend to help when you are not in a position to help and give false hope as you take on more people to a ship that is on the verge of sinking. It is also literally impossible to know what type of background these people have and what their true reasoning is for leaving as even criminals have family. The sad reality we are facing at the moment is just disheartening.
Immigration should not be used as the primary source of solution to problems across the world. This cannot be solved by simply letting more people in after they escape a corrupt or flawed system. The US's form of assistance should be more through diplomatic treaties sanctions and economic partnerships to encourage solutions to the origin of the problem while safeguarding each others stability.
One would not wish to leave if the country they live in were to treat their citizens fairly. I mean you can see the mass exodus of Cali and NY, its not exclusive to other countries, its the governing body that needs to provide solutions and its citizens to demand the change. No amount of immigration is going to provide a lasting solution as it will only encourage more to embark in such a dangerous journey as they expose the innocent to exploitation and provides an avenue for criminals to take advantage of, while footing the cost to the US in a perpetual endless cycle.
