It's nice because there's never a line at the kiosk.
I honestly don't understand why anybody would rather try and explain to the smooth brained dolt how they want my food prepared.
Now if I'm at a nice restaurant then yeah, I want a real waitress and a real bartender. But I don't go to McDonald's for the dining experience, I want to get in and out as soon as possible.
But it's not a machine that prepares the food, it's still a person interpreting the instructions on the screen from the kiosk. No different than directly communicating.
I ordered food at a McDonald's a few days ago. The order menu screen was black, broken. Yet they still asked me upon submitting my order if everything was correct. I said I can't see it the screens broken, they said yes proceed to the second window.
they are paid to run by the script not to use their brains.
They have those at a McDonald’s near where I live. No one uses them. The people go to the register where the human is taking orders.

One less point of failure. I'm all for automating the kitchen as well.
Same. I seem to get better results out of the humans if I enter the order in myself.
