My theory is that the military build-up (and ridiculous FBI stories about boog bois at the capitols to justify it) is in preparation for Trump's impeachment conviction in the Senate on the 20th or 21st, and his subsequent arrest for leading an insurrection.

Yes it would. You can imagine the reaction from Trump's supporters. You'd need an army to hold back that wave of anger...
Or just a few stickied posts saying that reacting to Trump’s arrest would be falling for an FBI trap...
Good theory but one flaw. The moment they cement Biden, Trump becomes a citizen you can't impeach a citizen. Senate hearing is useless and also Trump has a right to bring a defense for his hearing. I could be wrong but on the 20th congress can't touch him. State and local officials can.
He theoretically could blanket pardon himself on the way out.
