Stop buying Chinese imported garlic. If the roots are all removed, leaving a concave, clean spot, it is Chinese. This is required by the Ag Dept. to prevent soilborne plant diseases from entering our country. If the roots are still there, it is California garlic. Grow your own.

Thanks for the tip, Gilroy, CA.
Garlic capital of the world 🥰
Such a beautiful place. I love the farms and peacocks everywhere p
Vampire Lives Matter
Garlic Kills
Yes and the Chinese shit is usually in a box.
As op suggests, grow your own. Drop it on the ground kick a teaspoon of dirt on it and let it go. Garlic forever. It’s that nearly easy.
Right and a simple way to stick it to the commies that want us all dead - by not buying their products
Jesus, I need to get a place with a backyard so I can grow my own shit.
Same with green onions!
But I thought California was in China?
With the way they’ve fucked up for the last two decades but especially the last year I doubt they’re staying blue.
Honestly the election results of California were surprising. So much read, way more then I expected.
Chinese garlic will not keep vampires away.
Fang Fang likes this.
Growing garlic is the easiest thing in the world. Started with a couple bulbs 3 years ago. I planted enough to harvest 200 bulbs next summer. It's literally zero maintenance, idiot proof gardening and way tastier than any store bought garbage
I'm growing a bunch for the first time. Some basic white garlic but a lot of heritage and hardneck varieties bred for high elevations. I love garlic and crossing fingers they all take off in the spring.
Apparently they are bleached as well, to make them look white
That sounds pretty racist
chinese themselves regard any of their own who are brown to be lowlife dirty poor famers, etc, being why they stay out of the sun, and cherish the whitest skin poss
Nah. It’s really white without even trying.
It's cool. I get my garlic powered. I don't see any roots, bro. lol
Most likely from China
All I find around here is shriveled up Chinese garlic.
Just checked mine... 3 bulbs in a mesh bag, organic, "product of USA" on the tag.
Aldi sells garlic from China. Don’t buy it from there.
I do this! I’m picky with my garlic. I check the tag to see where it’s made
In Canada all the big stores try to sell china - goto the local stores and get stuff grown in Ontario.
It has been fumigated with methyl bromide.
I grow my own because the Chinese shit also seems to be bleached. It should have a purple tinge to it
Depends on the type. White and purple are both common variations.
Really as an Aussie I have grown lots and they are all purple tinged and always felt the white ones were bleached from China.. Happy to be wrong
Was doing some reading now you mention it and there is red and white
Most Aussie ones are red and when I see white I just think it is Chinese so dont buy it
Been growing our own for several years. It’s the easiest crop ever!
An Agri-Pede huh? Thanks for the tip!
Been doing this for that reason for 3 seasons now. Garlic is surprisingly easy to grow! No Chyna toxic heavy metals for my family.
I was one of those people buying the garlic in those sacks. Looked neat and convenient until one day I happened to look at the label. WTF! China!!
People would be surprised how much stuff they buy from Chy-Nah if they took two seconds to read the label
It just never occurred to me that we would be importing garlic from them. Or any produce. You can bet I read labels now
These are literally processed by prison labor. https://www.ft.com/video/140c3fa5-a3c1-438b-9601-e92ad0e1b395
Soil Borne Garlic Covid?
Stop The Stupid
OMG, stop with the bullshit! "To prevent soil borne plant diseases from entering our country the garlic roots are shaved". WTF?
Please Stop The Stupid!
It's true. I've bough several houseplants from overseas and they have all had to be certified, bare root, and have 0 soil on them. The USDA does not fuck around when it comes to US agriculture.
OMG!
Stop The Stupid
They are laughing at you for even acknowledging this ridiculous fabrication. I'm giggling too but not in a happy way. :/
?? I know you're a troll but I'm just putting this out there for other pedes. AG biosecurity is absolutely essential. Look what happened when we somehow got avian flu over here. Billions of both commercial and personal birds destroyed. It gutted the US avian industry and the local poultry guys never really recovered. All it would take is a disease targeting one of our big 4 crops that we couldn't get ahead of, and most of the rural US would be FUCKED. By far the easiest way to get that over here is by soil contamination. Plants and bulbs can be easily deconned but soil and roots are tricky. So, for food products such as garlic, it's easier and safer to require the roots to be shaved off and then have the bulb go through some sort of treatment to kill any hitch hikers.
Not just birds. Dutch elm disease and emerald ash borer have devastated forests throughout the country.
