Saw Buju Banton at the Long Beach Arena in the late 90s Same vibe. Had no herb. Got high as all get out despite that Haha! Good times. Cops everywhere that gave zero fucks. Oh to be twenty again. Sigh.
Ethiopian Orthodox are the real deal. Solomon’s descendants through Menelek.
Very old Church. 4th Century I think.
Very much preserved in amber, authentic ancient Christianity.
Their below ground rock cut cathedrals are spectacular.
Chant a psalm was the first song I ever heard as a kid. On a shorty's skateboard video. I thought they were saying "jam a summer day" at first but great song. Gets you in that bible spirit.
They're up there in age but put on great shows. Even live they sound awesome.
I saw them last time at the hollywood park before it closed, about 10 years ago. It was the coolest audience I'd ever been in at a concert and I've been to all kinds. Even back stage privileges I've had before.
I was kinda scared to smoke weed inside because there was a few cops there for crowd control reasons. So I didn't bring in any weed. Just got stoned in the parking lot and bet on a horse on the last race and won. So I was in a great mood as the concert was starting. The entire crowd lit up all sorts of joints and blunts. Passed them around to anyone who wanted some. So I had no problem there. I the cops were watching a herd of 400-500 people, majority of them getting stoned AF. they didn't care at all. Because not one single fight or anything broke out. unlike so many other events I've been to where fights are ordinary.
But yea awesome show. They played all the old hits I listened to all the time growing up.
I had this really good buddy back in my early twenties. I lived right above his flat in O.C. Cali. He was a white dude, enormous guy, dread locks, aspired to become a Reggae DJ and producer. We hung out regular, toked, listened to his bad ass roots and dance hall vinyl collection that he invested in heavily from online auctions. He was such a good friend. This was pre cell phones and we lost touch. Your post reminded me of him. Just took a one in a million chance that you might been him. I know...lame.

Reminds me of Armenian Churches
Yes. Armenian Orthodox is very similar. Also have monolithic rock cut cathedrals. I know personally many Armenians.
They don’t make reggae music.
Dude you never met my boy Ras Teo.
This song is one of my absolute favorites. The lyrics are so relevant to the times. I play Chant a Psalm when I need a pick me up, great band!
