Yup, some of his teaching methods are severe, but people are stubborn. There is a purpose behind God's methods too. In the Old Testament, one way God's methods are described is as a furnace fire, and those being punished as silver/valuable metal being melted to have the impurities removed in order to have a better product in the end. It's a purification process. :D
And I was supporting your statement by bringing knowledge to bear from reading the entire Bible more than once, from the beginning of Genesis to the end of Revelation. :D
