I honestly don't think most of them are capable of understanding that they are failures. They surround themselves with yes men and constantly look outwards for things and people to blame for our ills. They will take credit for making the rules and policies but they will NEVER take the heat for the failure of those policies. It's your fault and my fault WAAYYY before anyone even mentions the possibility that they might need to change themselves.

There is a line of thinking that reasons that the cause of failure is because people resisted and if only we had gone a little further, tried a little longer, been a little stricter.

In their mind there is a tipping point threshold to all things and that is why when things don't work they double down. Because this thinking is incompatible with self reflection and admitting being wrong, it is the common mode of thinking of politicians. People elect people who are never wrong (or at least genuinely profess so)

Considering they changed their name to get the job half the time, they are doing this on purpose. The war has long been in effect and they aren’t just full of themselves. Their evil too.
