whenever you are denied the ability to say or own something, then it is trivial for the government to plant something on you attribute something to you and declare you have broken the law.

So yes, laws that deny speech of ownership do affect the way government functions. A lot. Especially the Fibbies

There needs to be a compelling interest and a *narrowly tailored law" for the government to deny something to individuals. (otherwise known as "strict construction" by SCOTUS).
