Wondering if I should install... Brave was co-founded by Brendan Eich who appears to be based... pressured to leave Mozilla after opposing same-sex "marriage" and recently criticized Fauci on Twatter

mozilla is supporting censorship, i am trying brave, so far its great, I don't know their full politics

sentient-potato 3 points ago +3 / -0

You could give Dissenter a spin, it's been pretty great so far.

nanowerx 4 points ago +4 / -0

Dissenter is based off Brave. Both are great browsers

sentient-potato 1 point ago +1 / -0

I didn't know that! I like both and it was a pleasure to send Mozilla to the trash.

I would 100% agree. If you like Brave you get 100% of what Brave offers PLUS the Brave tracking removed with no more tracking added by GAB.

Go Brave.

It's a lot like Google chrome because they are both based on the chromium project. Just Brave isn't owned by a company actively trying to control what information it's users get to hear and what is censored.

for now, seems a legit option. what are you using now? mozilla?, chrome? internet explorer? I have been using brave a while now, its pretty good.

5
SFgayDude4Trump 5 points ago +5 / -0

Agreed. For now. Seems like almost everything these days eventually becomes corrupted at some point. But yeah for now Brave seems all good.

With an extra emphasis on privacy.

2
motrhed3 2 points ago +2 / -0

is it that big a deal to try brave out?

whisehunt 5 points ago +5 / -0

What are you even waiting for ?? Install Vanced while you are at it. Go to www.vancedapp.com and install the vance managerz then in the managerz install first vanced microG, then vanced youtube. That way you will not see any ads, and will not give youtube any revenue from your watchtime

5
Con_Canuck [S] 5 points ago +5 / -0

Thanks for the tip... I haven't heard of Vance but after some of the sick ads I have seen on youtube... need to prevent them from popping up for my children

1
SiliconVallBuffoons 1 point ago +1 / -0

For the record, Brave automatically blocks YouTube commercials.

1
whisehunt 1 point ago +1 / -0

when you open youtube in brave of course... im talking about the app itself. vanced youtube is the app itself but modified to not show any ad

5
Populist_Leader 5 points ago +5 / -0

I downloaded Dissenter, which is Gab’s version

4
Lol_Garrus 4 points ago +4 / -0

Brave is good.

Owner is based.

Browser respects privacy.

Browser moves faster than others because it automatically blocks trackers & ads

It’s great, I’ve been using a couple years now. It’s a small glimpse into how the internet will eventually work, too, with their BAT (basic attention token), which you can earn if you do allow/watch ads (it’s a crypto/with monetary value), or you can turn ads off. You can cash out your BAT, hold it in a wallet, or use it to fund your favorite content creators and websites. It essentially gets rid of the current ad-based system of internet, where YOU are the product, and they collect all your data to target ads. And again, you have the choice as to whether or not have ads in which you “give your attention,” to (and are rewarded for doing so. And those rewards can then be given to reward the sites you like and help fund them).

Along with that, very privacy-based (built on chromium but has NO affiliation to Chrome. It’s just the framework it’s built on, and is powered by Ethereum, a game changing blockchain technology that will usher in internet 3.0). Promise I have no affiliation with them, just been a user for a long time and a huge supporter of them, their vision, how it works, the principle behind it, etc.

It's great!

Also now it supports sinking of bookmarks and plugins across devices.

Important for mobile users, it can also display your tabs in a grid format with grouping just like mobile chrome. With each tab able to have multiple tabs stacked inside so you can easily organize the categories of tabs you have open

Ivleeeg 3 points ago +3 / -0

No question brave is the best browser out there.

3
RighterThanU 3 points ago +3 / -0

I’ve used brave on my desktop for at least a year. It’s generally good but once in a while I have to either lower shields on a particular site to get it to display correctly or use a different browser.

The mobile version used to suck but gave it another try recently when crapple pulled Parler and it’s much better than it used to be.

As a bonus I collected about $50 worth of BAT through their rewards and recently traded it to crypto in uphold just for giggles.

You want to pretty much never see an ad again? Brave browser is your way to go.

1
CuckS1ayer 1 point ago +1 / -0

Does it get around those news articles that detect ad blockers?

2
SiliconVallBuffoons 2 points ago +2 / -0

In most cases, yes it does. Anyway, if you find a site that doesn't work, you can report it to Brave (using a button, or on their forum) and it will be fixed.

2
NotLikeThis 2 points ago +2 / -0

I use it. It’s pretty great. Get familiar with the “shields down” button for sites that seem to behaving poorly or not at all.

1
Ivleeeg 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yep, sites with popup logins do not work well with brave, because those logins are insecure.

2
pedeypete 2 points ago +2 / -0

All the brave reward and wallet shit that gets introduced on a whim as opt-out is highly suspect, but I fear it's the best we have for now.

As soon as something better comes along though, I'm out.

2
trumpslide2020 2 points ago +2 / -0

Have been for years. Install

2
Bullet_Tooth_Tony 2 points ago +2 / -0

I started using it recently and really like it. Functions as expected.

2
So_Much_Happening 2 points ago +2 / -0

I've been using it for years. Of all the things I use Brave for online, in the beginning there was only one thing it didn't do. I don't remember what that was so it's obviously fixed; Android & PC. Years.

Me and Yes

1
pokeman 1 point ago +1 / -0

Using it on my phone. Took awhile to get use to but it’s faster than safari

sentient-potato 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yes, I use Brave and Dissenter, both are great.

Just keep in mind that when you check a cart out, or fill out some forms, you'll have to toggle "shields down" for that page or it won't submit correctly.

1
Kriegson 1 point ago +1 / -0

Brave or Gab's "Dissenter" which is a modification of Brave but allows you to comment to others on various websites even if they don't have a comment function on the site.

1
Indyjamming 1 point ago +1 / -0

I love it.

1
RedPillMakesEmSqueal 1 point ago +1 / -0

Get dissenter browser from gab. Brave is a good second choice.

1
brsmith77 1 point ago +1 / -0

I am using it. Its pretty good so far. No issues with any sites.

1
prospektor 1 point ago +1 / -0

Well, I love it. Never ran into any problems so far, having used it for more than a year at least, probably more like two.

1
Maximum-Pressure 1 point ago +1 / -0

I love it. Migrated all of my stuff from chrome flawlessly.

1
slangin_paint 1 point ago +1 / -0

It good.

1
CertainlyNotEdward 1 point ago +1 / -0

I used Brave until they added their Brave Today news feed feature that includes such "news" organizations as Buzzfeed and Vox enabled by default.

I now use Gab's Dissenter, which is a privacy oriented fork of Brave.

1
MotorCityMayhem 1 point ago +1 / -0

DO IT! I have been using it for years, the options for security and password management are sweet.

1
kraken_pede 1 point ago +1 / -0

Using brave right now

Even though their politics are shitty, Mozilla's FireFox is still open source and has one of the only remaining web engines competing against Google's Chromium. And just like Chrome/Chromium, there are plenty of alternatives to FireFox that use the same engine.

I cannot in good conscience support Google's control over the web when there is a viable alternative.

And while Chromium is still open source, its still controlled by Google, which is far and away the worse evil of the two.

Dissenter.

1
Brickwell 1 point ago +1 / -0

It works well on my mac.

1
EddieAteTheEmu 1 point ago +1 / -0

I was considering this one, I'm still on DDG and would like feedback on user experiences of all options.

1
John27 1 point ago +1 / -0

Brave seems to be the best option, using for couple of months now.
