Not illegal. They are US Government Property. No rights except when in court. Even then the rights aren't the same as a normal citizen. When you enlist you also throw away your right to sue the Government
partially true -- you lose many individual rights -- but they weren't treated as individuals in this case, but discriminated as a "possible group" with out any evidence and I'm assuming, without the FBI working in tandem with the Military Judicial office.
