These major subreddits are like a big room full of people talking at once.
The conversation is shallow when you're all talking at once.
With smaller groups, conversations can have depth.
That's why early reddit days was so great, not enough people screaming in the same room yet.

Early Reddit days were great and we all looked down on the idiots over at Digg. Once Digg failed, they gradually took over Reddit.
