I'm right there with you...I agree on it all, including changing my career as a Professor of Psychology. Academia is just as corrupt.

I knew academia was corrupt when my intro to psych prof put questions about Hillary Clinton on an exam after the 16 election...

Wow, look at my latest post. I just said the same thing. I starting sobbing today, because I cannot believe these people got away with it. Not ONE person was held accountable for the spying, etc. Now we have a fake president who China installed. I mean it is just too much. I feel you, pede. God may have a bigger plan that we just cannot see, yet...

I certainly hope he does because I’m feeling really hopeless right now. Hope you’ll be okay in all of this. God bless.

You too!! Don’t be harsh in leaving your career. There isn’t much out there that’s gonna survive 4 years of Cackling Kamala and sleepy joe. Healthcare will probably be the safest bet for now. Don’t be depressed. Trump has fulfilled biblical prophecy and has exposed the beast. Stay focused on Jesus. This is all part of Gods plan.

Well then let me introduce to what job hunting is like (as one of the chosen - the coders).

Can't apply with them, they abuse H1Bs. They'll just lay me off on a whim after I train my Indian replacement.

Can't apply with them, they use React (a facebook product).

Can't apply with them, their blog is all political and they expect me to hear it nonstop.

Can't apply with them, that's a school and they require temp checks and diversity training and apologies for being white.

If you have a job, you don't want to look, trust me on this. It doesn't get better. They are e v e r y w h e r e and your morals or desires for your own choices are going to make things difficult. Let's not even talk about all the ghosting. It doesn't matter if you are qualified, employers are ignoring so many and those that do interview want more than possible in a human lifetime.

I had a code test that expected me to write 2 (non-trivial - their words) algorithms and fix a JS error in an unseen chunk of JS. That task was supposed to be completed in ... 3 hours. All 3 things - read, in depth, and performed in 3 hours, in an IDE I had never used. All at once, the timer started when you started reading and there was no "pause" for it. In one sitting - all at one time it had to be completed. You know what would have been my next interview step with them - an IQ test, then a personality test, then a 3 hour panel of peer, then another technical interview. Then I'd have to do more algorithm tests with a sponsor watching.

All unpaid, naturally because fuck any projects I want to do to keep plumping up my resume (which the next employer will expect). Oh... you wanted me to work on personal projects while I was job hunting, sorry, I had too many interviews to do work too - think that will fly?

I spend 6-9 hours a day searching job board reading ad after ad after ad over and over and over and sigh each time they want me to write another cover letter that they will just ignore (even though I looked at their website and their team and read their crap about culture). I've tweaked my resume over and over for ATS systems and they STILL don't pick up the data in it. It's just plain bulleted lists now and they still can't parse it correctly. As an example today I visited 17 job boards. SEVENTEEN and I skip the common junk like careerbuilder and monster (which are just recruiters wasting your time). Today my search hours were 3:30a - 6:45a then 2:30p - 8:15p. I'm writing them down to make myself feel like SOMETHING is in my CONTROL.

I warn you - don't quit a job right now unless you can't feed your family on the pay you have.

Yes I'm degreed, yes I've got over 15 years experience.

Oh and fuck Biden because he doesn't care to make any of my struggle better. Fuck H1Bs too. I'm literally thinking I should get a job cleaning toilets because the stress level will be reduced but the last time I hunted for menial tasks they whined about my degree claiming I'd just leave when I found work in my field like I don't know how to be loyal. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

As you can see - this weighs on my mind. Don't take on the burden if you have the option not to.

If shit sucks, it's best being around like-minded individuals. I can't do it around a bunch of my own family, they think I'm extreme right. All I want is fair elections and all my freedoms.

Do what you need to do, but try sticking around. If we have to live in clown world, at least here we can bitch about it with each other.
