I can understand a small buildup of troops if they are scared. But the only thing I can think of is what is Trump going to release that the Dems feel they need a full army in DC?

it's all for the optics. They want to build up that "Trump supporters" were planning another massive showup for the inauguration and build on their narrative that we are violent. They will try to stage engagements between the troops there and "Trump supporters" for the camera so the news can say that we were "desperate" and "violent" and say it's "not Antifa/BLM or leftists that are the violent ones".
This is all propaganda to build on their narrative that we are the "violent ones"
Doesn't Trump have to authorize this? Why would he give the OK on such an unreasonable number?
