Elections in the US have been corrupt as shit since as far back as the late 1800's. Probably since the beginning. Look up Tammany Hall election fraud, or the 1946 Battle of Athens.
Incidentally, it's funny going back and reading articles from 2000-2004 published on "liberal" sites that talk nonchalantly about how sloppy and insecure our elections are, and how rife with fraud they historically have been and likely still are. Travel forward to 2020, and those same sites would ban you for even suggesting that fraud is a possibility.
