They’ll agree with absolutely anything those people say, because they believe the celebrities are their superiors: the epitome of civilized society, fashion, morality, and mental superiority.

The problem with celebrities is there is an unspoken message in everything they do: "Watching me is a great way to spend your time!" This is almost never actually true, and most people would be way better off actually DOING something with themselves rather than mindlessly consuming media. Celebrities are supposed to be so great, but no one ever points out that they essentially require millions of mental slaves in order to exist. What they never tell you, as you watch celebrities do their thing, is that they (the celebs) are the ones who are really living life, while you (the consumer) are passive and pathetic. I think breaking the spell of celebrity is one of the ways we can climb out of this cultural morass we are in. Thanks for posting, fren. This is an important point and a conversation we really need to have.
