Check your local laws. In many areas this is illegal and subject to action. It is a distress signal and may be treated as something equivalent to calling 911 for no reason. That could mean a talking to, or in an unfriendly area a fine or am example made of you where you get railroaded. Don't think they wouldn't.

Is it illegal to hang a flag upside down?

No. It is not illegal to fly the American flag upside down. The United States Supreme Court ruled in 1989, Texas vs Johnson, that burning or desecration of the American flag is protected by the First Amendment.

And your case will probably be dropped if you take it to court, but I'm telling you there's local ordinances where you are likely to face a headache over it, or possible railroading.

You have more faith in the court than I do. I have no doubt they'd drag it out and make me spend thousands before dropping the case.

I dont want to get anyone in trouble or ask anyone to break the Law. Do what is legal and peaceful. If what I suggested is in question, then I advise do not risk breaking any laws.

Always good to suggest good things, then let people wrestle over legality, usefulness, wisdom, all that stuff.

This is how we get good ideas peer reviewed live.

Well said. And yes, insurrection is going to be how they round up a ton of us.

An upside down flag could be seen as insurrection.

Yes. Yes, it could. :)
