Flynn lied AND he should’ve known better. If I were a big political player, I’d have a lawyer.

My dad was a cop of 30 years.

Even he says do not not talk to cops in situations involving legal disputes (that includes speeding). What is really meant by this is 'don't say too much'. Know when to plead the 5th and STFU, basically.

On any other day, cops are just people like us and we can talk - but if you're being suspected by the cop for ANYTHING, don't talk to them. I know people who were just being honest and open and their speech was twisted and used as a confession to a crime they really didnt commit.

The 5th amendment is meant to protect you from oppression by the state. Use it.

This is the answer I was looking for. Too much of the advice on here advocating for making an enemy of an agency with more experience and resources than you have.

You still think you're in Kansas.

You're not.

Law enforcement in the US can lie to you in order to get you to talk.

The police is never your friend. Never. Ever. These people are doing a job and they have quota to reach.

If they don't have a warrant, seriously, don't talk to them.

You are far, far more likely to talk yourself into jail than out of it. Even if you are factually innocent.

If they do have a warrant, DEFINITELY don't talk to them.

You don't need a lawyer to exercise your right to avoid self-incrimination.

If you feel that there is a good reason to share some sort of info with the feds, get a trustworthy lawyer and speak only through them.

They will use anything you say against you.
All you have to say is this. I DO NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS. that’s all. You repeat it over and over. They cannot do anything. But if you answer anything they can and will use it against you.

They’re not supposed to, but they will. Remaining silent. Yea. Do that.

You should never EVER speak to police voluntarily. If you do you are a fool. There is no upside. Police lie, hide evidence, try to entrap you, falsify records and are very good at getting around nasty civil liberties and due process. Most attorneys have 30 minute free consultations. You just witnessed the corruption and lies at the very top, why in the world would anybody trust law enforcement today?
