With the Harris regimen moving in, and with the high likelihood of my home-defense AR-15 being taxed or taken away, I'm looking for an alternative firearm. I'm assuming a shotgun is the next best thing for home-defense. Does anyone have any recommendations for a shotgun that is good for newbies, home-defense, is affordable, and legal in California?

Pump action, you want Mossberg 500 or Remington 870. But they're hard to come by nowadays. For under $400 you can get a Winchester SXP 12G with 18-in barrel at Bass Pro.
Semi auto for the money I like the Mossberg 930 Tactical 8-shot.
*You can keep your AR. Post a sale ad for it on any of the private gun sales websites out there. Like floridaguntrader.com. Then, take the ad down in a few days once your AR is "sold".
If the commies come looking for your AR, show them a copy of the ad and said you sold it to some skinny white guy wearing a BLM shirt.
The Mossberg 930 might be the way to go for me. Will it need much maintenance since it's gas operated?
Also as for your suggestion to get around the commies, I don't think that defense would work because California has restrictive laws when it comes to the sale of firearms. I would have to go through an authorized firearm dealer in order to sell a firearm here, so I don't think I have the option to pretend I sold it online.
Owned my 930 for years and other than typical cleaning, it's working fine.
You need to exit Commiefornia, stat!
Thanks for your suggestions. I have tried to escape Commiefornia, but I am in a position where I have to hold down the fort.
Ask Joe Biden, all you need is one to lay across the back porch and fire off a blast to scare intruders away.
