In the last speeches he's only condemned "the attack on the Capitol" and called for healing, unity, and finding common ground.

I think this is the real reason. I'm not 'Q', but I think there is far more at stake right now in addition to the election. There's a lot of weird rumors going around, and most rumors have a grain of truth to them.
I see it as either.
A: he really is defeated/threatened to lay down. B: he is selling this to the max, setting the stage for a glorious springing of the trap. (a lot of things lining up)
