Optics. All eyes are on DC. All of the soldiers are there purely for theatre. When you understand that the most important move for the left right now is to say that all conservatives are domestic terrorists, everything going on becomes clear. It's not about fear of assassination, it's about setting up their next play to essentially make it illegal to be MAGA.

If they're not there to protect him, and Trump doesn't launch some sort of IA sting tomorrow (and he won't) then that leaves only one real option, the one I described.
