The 17th Amendment was the beginning of the end of our Republic. States no longer have an appointed representative in the Federal Government and lost their ability to keep the Fed in check.
Exactly. Imagine if Senators were at the total beck and call of the State Legislators as originally intended, and they imagined then what is happening now which is why they did it that way.
We'd also have 64 Senators that would never vote yes on an unfunded mandate.
The 17th Amendment made it that way. If we repeal the 17th the state legislatures can recall whomever they want whenever they want.
