Can't impeach a private citizen. Impeachment is for the removal of the sitting president only. It's not even a criminal trial. It's only a removal process.
They can do what they want in the senate, they make their own rules. Whether a conviction in a senate impeachment trial has any legal consequences for a private citizen, is a question that would ultimately be decided in the supreme court.
If this is true I hope the party would enact party-imposed term limits for house and senate seats since term limits will probably never get passed as a regular law. I think this would be a way to get rid of a lot of corruption otherwise the party would turn into the Republican Party 2.0
Trump knows, and we all know, that HE doesn't have to run and be the President again in the future, if he were to be impeached. Don Jr. can run, Trump can accompany him to all rallies, etc., he can handle himself in debates, and we can get the twofer with Don Jr in office. Easy peasy.

The DNC and the RNC are private entities. They are not government. Holding impeachment hearings and trials as leverage and blackmail is treasonous.
