According to the Journal, it’s not clear whether Mr. Trump was merely musing aloud or would be willing to put in the kind of time and investment that building a political party takes.

I don't think he be going it alone. I think he'd have some support and help. Amirite?

Well, of course he won't be going it alone. There are a few dozen pro-Trump in congress (Senate and house combined) as well as a bunch of officials on the local level who would support him. Not to mention that he has a huge base (us) that will go right with him. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the amount of people on the republican party who are loyal to him far outstrips the amount of people who support the establishment republicans without question. After all, before the election he always was supported by like 96% of the GOP, and even if his status as a third party candidate does lower his support somewhat he will still have the majority of the GOP base with him.

Pretty much

I was going to give him the benefit of doubt and just never trust him again

But your rationale makes perfect sense too
