Reflecting on those words, i agree with you op, this leaves me with the uncomfortable question, 'did he really do everything he could'? He must come out with the truth, of why he made the desicions he did, and what exactly led up to them. This is no time for vague words and soft spoken farewell speeches. Millions of Americans deserve the truth and nothing but the truth.
It is sickening that DJT said that and did absolutely nothing with his presidential powers about it, this sentence alone shows that he understood the gravity of the situation.
The Question is why did he do nothing, maybe he tried to go to the insurrection act/martial law route and was simply told no by the military? Maybe the deep state threatened to hunt his family down until the end of time if he doesn't stand down?
My personal opinion is that Trump believed and listened to his lawyers that told him to go to the politics/court options and once that failed he was simply afraid of being called a dictator on TV 24/7 if he went scorched earth, he was always really obsessed with what the media says about him and with the media in general.

Why did you call your most ardent supporters to DC ? What was it all about? You said you had earth shattering new evidence , but nothing new was delivered on 1/6? You said you had it all, so why was " the all" never revealed? You said you would not give up. He was within his legal rights to call in the National Guard to seize the voting machines , ballots and election materials. A manual recount would have provided irrefutable evidence. These counties couldn't even balance their books, in PA they have counted hundreds of thousands more mail in ballots than were mailed out.

I am fearful that the answer is that it would expose too many who played a part in this obvious fraud and he was pressured to move on " for the good of the country ". Ok that's a reasonable answer. But I do think it will come out that China and others interfered materially in our election. I also think Biden's entanglement with China will surface. Pompeo eluded to the danger of so many of our elected officials having foreign entanglements. Yet the media, Congress and Big Tech run cover. Its scary times. I feel so bad about what he went through! He had high, huge hopes; we were having one of his giant rallies and everything would be brought to light. Inside they were voting, and so many Senators had beautiful strong speeches...who knows what would have happened if it completed. Instead the breach happened and stopped it (I think set up by them)...he was still so brave, coming out and speaking so calmly although he must have been devastated, called a criminal, plans shattered, followers called criminals...they took everything and wouldn't stop...then pence betrayal, betrayal after betrayal...and who knows what happened in private, or threats. It was supposed to be a wonderful time, instead they took everything.
And I still think it can get back (before all seemed lost) either now or at some point. But no one has endless strength.
If he had been himself the whole time, his hiring and firing decisions would have been a lot better. Comey was the single worst employment decision of Trumps lifetime.
