Nazis are assholes either way. You lock up innocent people, and they die from starvation and disease, you're responsible, just as much as if you had gassed them.
It's mainly about how we perceive ourselves. If concentration camp victims died primarily of starvation and disease, then maybe the only reason our Japanese concentration camps (yes, that was really what they were originally called) didn't look exactly the same was that we happened to win that war.
Confederate prisoner of war camps had similar death rates to Nazi concentration camps... It turns out that, when you're losing a war, your prisoners don't do well.
Anyway, I'm not certain about this, but it's always bothered me that the discussion is CLOSED.
I don't want to get in an emotional argument, but would love to hear if you've got good information to refute this claim.
I've read that there may have been a gas chamber at Auschwitz, but, if it existed, it was destroyed before allied troops arrived. The claim is that all gas chambers you can tour today were in fact built by the allies for that very purpose. Furthermore, the claim is that this fact isn't even disputed by the organizations giving the tours.
If you have reliable information about this, I would be grateful, as it is a difficult subject to find trustworthy sources on.
