People have always been like this. The Israelites begged God for a King. God just wanted them to be free to run their own lives in their tribes with the laws he gave them.

This story has always struck me. The natural order that god wants for us is freedom. Yet we continue to self sabotage ourselves. The US is a prime example. A “free” nation with no income tax and supported by tariffs until the early 1900’s when everyone decided that income taxes were a good idea - essentially turning us into slaves.

We haven't been free in a while. Tracked everywhere we go, tracked on everything we look at online, tracked with all of our purchases, tracked even walking down the road by CCTV. We have a perception of freedom that is hollow in reality.

Unless you're Jeffrey Epstein in prison, of course.

Do you think it stems from weak and lazy people being afraid of making their own decisions, thus, not having to be responsible for their terrible decisions?

No, it was communists like Wilson convincing people to “tax the rich” via an income tax. Income at the time was defined as returns on investments, not money earned through labor.

It all started with Woodrow Wilson. He also ushered in the Federal Reserve Bank. Makes me wonder if he was one of the original kiddy fuckers, but back then it was enough of a scandal to just be cheating on your wife.

Nope. God wanted to be their king while using a prophetic mediator like what he was doing before Saul became king. The Israelites didn't want an invisible king in the sky but a human king.

Yep they actually rejected freedom for a while
