My flag has been upside down for months.
I've seen a lot of them at half-mast today, although I don't know if that's because of the "installation" or something else.
I took mine down completely and put it in a burial memorial case because RIP.
No one will know about a buried flag. With an upside-down flag, it will show where you stand and encourage others to follow as well.
Its not buried its in a burial case next to my grandfathers burial case. (The triangular display cases) An empty flagpole says even more.

Ok so not to spoil the sentiment here but an upside down flag is an emergency signal that will result in people calling up first responders and stuff like that. So this is not a good idea.
I was at school as a kid one time and some kid decided to put the flag up upside down as a joke or something, not realizing what this means. Then a pilot saw it and called the school from the airport asking if there was an emergency. Luckily he didn’t call the cops, but he might have done that too.
In short, this is a recognized emergency signal so shouldn’t be used as a political protest. Police may show up and ask if there’s an emergency then get annoyed, etc.
