It won't go down like you think it will.
Sure, they will put up some ridiculous bullshit bill in the house which will ban everything including posting pictures of firearms on the Internet... It could pass, but its most likely DOA. Straight confiscation is the line in the sand and I don't think our representatives would be stupid enough to send the nation down that path. Although to be honest I have almost no faith in our "elected leadership".
The real gun confiscation will come in the form of "red flag" laws. These things will sound good on paper, and will be an easier sell to right leaning folks, at least for a compromise.
Of course no one wants firearms in the hands of a mentally unstable person, or someone who is "unfit" to possess a weapon, right? Jeez, don't you remember Sandy Hook?
But when the ministry of truth defines who is mentally unstable, unfit, and encourages comrades in their witch hunt on evil gun owners, then you can be damn sure the establishment is coming for you.

I also have to say watch out for laws that limit your ammo. Learn to reload the entire cartridge from available materials just in case.
They'll start with stopping new sales and forcing registration.
Registration is so underhanded bc you are making a list of gun owners and making anyone not on that list illegal. You're putting your fate in their hands if you register. Registration lists are used to confiscate firearms, they'll even tell you that but only if its "illegal" or they are now suddenly a "prohibited possessor" In a few years that list could be used to take your guns because that type of firearm is now illegal for you to own. But if you don't you can't take it to the ranger or show it to people, or even use it for small scale self defense without risking a problem. But if well hidden you can keep it no matter what. You could still use for tyranny bc at that point you won't give a fuck.
This is why confiscation in places like England and Australia was so simple. They knew where every gun was because they had registration and licenses for a very long time. Their culture is different as well so they all didn't expect others to stand and fight with them if they had fought.
Sadly I lost my firearms in a tragic boating accident.
I hate it when that happens.
On a serious note don't ever think that excuse will be acceptable when they come. They'll just end up throwing you in a cell for contempt of court or whatever when you refuse to give them up.
